Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden

Mmmmmmm, Beeeeeeeeeeeeer. I went to this place on Sunday and there was a Czech and Slovak festival going on. Lots of good food like potato pancakes and chicken schnitzel and good beer like Hoegaarden and Pilsner Urquell in an outdoor beer garden in NYC. Such a great place.

Bush 'planted fake news stories on American TV'

Federal authorities are actively investigating dozens of American television stations for broadcasting items produced by the Bush administration and major corporations, and passing them off as normal news. Some of the fake news segments talked up success in the war in Iraq, or promoted the companies' products.

Enron jury reaches a verdict in fraud and conspiracy case

Lets pray for harsh sentencing!!

Former Enron chiefs Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling have been found guilty on dozens of charges of conspiracy and fraud.

Lay was found guilty on all charges, which could net him 165 years in jail.

Skilling was found guilty of the first 35 counts brought against him. He was acquitted, however, of numerous charges of insider trading.

Statement of Monica Benderman-Congressional Briefing for Conscientious Objection

Excerpt of Kevin Benderman's statement:

I have prepared this statement to address the injustice I have been dealt by the US Army after I made the decision to apply for Conscientious Objector status. I made this decision after my return from Iraq where I witnessed and experienced for myself the insanity of war. What I learned from my experience is that war is a waste of humanity. We kill many people in the name of keeping the peace – an oxymoron if there ever was one. After many months of contemplation I reached the conclusion that I no longer wanted to contribute to the ultimate violence toward other human beings that war is.

Dobbs: Bush, Congress tell working folk to go to hell

George W. Bush's approval ratings have slumped to the lowest of his presidency. The approval rating for Congress is even lower, and nearly three-quarters of Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction...

Illegal aliens are more important to this Congress than securing our borders and our ports, more important than those legal immigrants who have waited in line and who follow the law. The Senate has added to the litany of lunacy that makes up what it calls reform: Illegal aliens would only have to pay back taxes on three of the past five years, they will not be prosecuted for felonies such as identity theft or purchasing or using fraudulent Social Security cards, and unlike millions of visa holders who have to leave the country to have them renewed, they may simply remain in the United States while this Congress and this president give away all the benefits and privileges of American citizenship.

West Point Grads Against the War

“Our country is now geared to an arms economy bred in an artificially induced psychosis of war hysteria and an incessant propaganda of fear.”

The Roots et al Last Night at Radio City

DUDE, what a freaking great show last night at Radio City!!

Openers were some African duo playing what seemed to be traditional West African music, ethereal voice and some traditional instrument.

Then, the show was essentially a variety show with people like Mos Def and Erykah Badu and others I didn't know singing a few numbers. DJ Jazzy Jeff was behind the turntables and he had a 5 minute solo which was amazing. I was half thinking Will Smith was gonna come out and do Parents Just Don't Understand.

Intermission was Dave Chappelle and he was pretty damn funny and then basically said that Hollywood was pimping him out and he had to stop that in its tracks. Hence, he bagged on the 3rd season and went to Africa. He didn't say it directly but did so by telling a few stories about Iceberg Slim, a famous pimp.

The wife thought the flow of the show was a bit disjointed. They made amends by the end when Jay Z came out and rocked the house for a couple more tracks.

Editorial from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer--9/11 Commission report is a lie

Guest columnist Richard Curtis lays it out...

Second, in the months after 9/11 all of the surviving New York City Fire Department personnel who were on the scene were interviewed. Those oral histories were recorded and withheld from the public until Aug. 15, 2005. Only after losing in court three times did the city of New York finally release them. All 503 are now posted on The New York Times Web site. Why did the city fight so hard to keep them from the public?

It turns out those oral histories reveal details about what was happening in the World Trade Center buildings that are completely inconsistent with the tale told by the commission. Dozens of firefighters and medics reported hearing, seeing and feeling explosives going off in the buildings that collapsed. Why were there explosives, very powerful explosives by all accounts, going off in the buildings?

Dragonfly Migration Resembles That Of Birds, Scientists Say

Cool!

"The dragonflies' routes have showed distinct stopover and migration days, just as the birds' did," said Wikelski, an associate professor of ecology and evolutionary biology. "Additionally, groups of both birds and dragonflies did not migrate on very windy days and only moved after two successive nights of falling temperatures. We saw other similarities as well, which makes us wonder just how far back in Earth's history the rules for migration were established in its animals."

Scottish Independence

Here's my prediction: Scotland will be an independent state before the 6 counties return to the Republic of Ireland...See link for info on the Scottish National Party.

Why Independence

The primary aim of the SNP is to take Scotland forward to Independence. Independence means the Scottish Parliament having full control over Scottish affairs, and the right to decide when to share power with others. Devolution is not enough for Scotland. Only Independence would give us the same rights and the same responsibilities as other nations. It would give us a voice on the world stage and a say in international bodies like the UN and EU. And Independence would bring greater freedom for individuals, families and communities, within a society built on common interests.

Findings are scandalous, say survivors

Mohammed Sidique Khan, the ringleader of the four suicide bombers who carried out the attacks on London's public transport system, was not fully investigated despite being known to security officials, the report said.

Soon after the attacks, which killed 52 people, it emerged that Khan had been under surveillance by British intelligence. But MI5 officers assigned to investigate him were diverted to another anti-terrorist operation.

New security glitch found in Diebold system

Armed with a little basic knowledge of Diebold voting systems and a standard component available at any computer store, someone with a minute or two of access to a Diebold touch screen could load virtually any software into the machine and disable it, redistribute votes or alter its performance in myriad ways.

"This one is worse than any of the others I've seen. It's more fundamental," said Douglas Jones, a University of Iowa computer scientist and veteran voting-system examiner for the state of Iowa.

Beer Spas: Yeast of Eden

That may be true, but it's worth noting that the half-hour treatment, which starts at 44 euros, is also mildly intoxicating. The Moorhof's therapeutic brew is composed of a 2 percent-alcohol lager made for it by the local Schnaitl brewery, fortified with brewer's yeast, malt and two scoops of hops, all thrown into a barrel-shaped tub and topped with warm water. Bubbles rise from the bottom, stirring the mix and causing a head to form — much like a Jacuzzi or giant mug.

US World Cup Team!

2006 USA World Cup Team (list from duNord)

Lets See--starting 11

Keller
Cherundulo Onweyu Pope Lewis
Mastroeni Reyna
Beasely Convey

O'Brien will start ahead of Masroeni if healthy or if Reyna goes down. Some combo of those three. Dempsey will likely sub in or start a match or two. Eddie Johnson may sub in, late as well. But I think you've got to have Beasely, Convey, Donovan and McBride on the field at the same time. Donovan in the withdrawn striker roaming or Beasely can do that as well.
